In this research polystyrene was used to make PEMFC, it was isolated from styrofoam. Beside that, polyblend membrane from sulfonated polystyrene and lignosulfonate was also made. Polystyrene sulfonation was done by using acetyl sulfate with variation in concentrations. The purpose of sulfonation is to add SO3H group in polystirene, so it can transfer H+ ions. Polyblend membrane was made by mixing PSS and LS (5%) with variation in sulfonated degree of polystyrene. The membrane was characterized by FTIR analysis, swelling, ion exchange capacity, conductivity, mechanical analysis, TGA/DTA, XRD, and viscosity. Analysis results show that polyblend from sulfonated polystyrene (acetate anhydride 1,32 ml) and lignosulfonate 5% is the optimal composition. text |
