DETERMINATION AND STUDY OF ZN(II), CU(II), CD(II) AND NI(II) ACCUMULATIONS IN BLOOD SERUM OF LABORATORY RATS, PREVIOUSLY ORALLY FED WITH GREEN MUSSELS (PERNA VIRIDIS)

Green Mussel (Perna viridis) is a well-known living organism in deep-sea sediments, playing role as bio-indicator or biomonitoring agent for heavy-metal contaminations in the sea. In this research, Zn(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) concentrations, in green mussels from sea body water in Mundu, Cir...

In this research, Zn(II), Cu(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) concentrations, in green mussels from sea body water in Mundu, Cirebon, were determined. Determination of such heavy-metal cations was carried out by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), applied to dry digested samples. Analytical performance was evaluated by determining % recovery for artificial samples. Meanwhile, for real samples of green mussels, evaluation was realized by determining confidence limit for the obtained results. The result showed that there was a sequence of heavy-metal cations content in green mussels sample, such as Ni(II) < Cd(II) < Cu(II) < Zn (II). In this research, the possibility of accumulation of heavy-metal cations in blood serum of laboratory rats, previously orally fed with green mussels for certain periods of time, i.e. for 4, 8 and 12 days was explored. Determination of heavy-metal cations in blood serum of laboratory rats revealed the evidence of heavy-metal cations accumulations, such as Zn(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) for any categories of laboratory rats. text
