Description
Summary:Membrane technology is used widely for separation. One of the most commom membrane used is a polymer membrane. In this research, ditizone-PMMA membrane was used to separate copper(II) and lead (II). The membrane was characterized by analsis of surface morphology and cross section of the membrane by using Scanning Electroen Microscope(SEM) and permeability & permselectivity test. Concentration of Cu(II) and Pb(II) measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). DItizone-PMMA membrane was prepared by phase invertion technique forwards the mixture of poly(methylmechacrylate), PMMA, ditizon and Poly(ethylene glcol), PEG. The obtained membrane was used to separate the feed solution containing Pb(II) and Cu(II). Separation process was facilitated by operational pressure varies between 1 to 2 atm. The experiment showed that the maximum of % rejection of Pb(II) occurred at a pressure of 1.5 atm was 22.59%, while the optimum of maximum % rejection of Cu(II) was 25.85% at 2 atm pressure. <br />
