Summary: | Generally concrete is made with a continuous and uniform aggregate gradation which will produce a workable mix. This thesis presents an experiment on concrete mixes using gap-graded aggregates for two concrete qualities, namely K-175 and K 300. The specimens are cylinders of 150 mm x 300 mm cured in water tank until the testing date. The specimens' compressive strength and modulus of elasticity were tested. The results of the test are compared to the results of previous research eson this subject. These results show that the effect of gap-graded agregates on the mechanical properties of concrete depend among other on the ratio of coarse aggregate to total aggregate content and the ratio of fine sand to total sand (fine aggregate) content. It is also shown that the mechanical properties of low strength concrete are more affected by the choice of aggregate gradation than those of higher strength concretes. |
