The costs are not only limited to medical and compensation costs, but delay in production, training cost for newly substitute workers, weakening in morale (quality of working life), drops in the image of the company should also be taken into account. Beyond technical aspect that seems commonly done in industries, there is a need to recognize the integral role that human and organizational factors in accident analysis, which is in the domain of safety culture.<p>Until now, there is no research related to assessment and mapping companies’ safety culture, especially manufacture sector. This research provide valid and reliable tool to assess and map safety culture of manufacture sector in Indonesia. That tool consists of seven factors/ dimensions which assess companies’ efforts to develop positive safety culture: organizational commitment, management involvement, employee empowerment, communication, environment/working conditions, training, and rewards/incentives.<p>Using that tool, researcher assessed (using 1-5 scaling) six branches of manufacture sector (Food Industry; Textile Industry; Leather and Footwear Industry; Wood Industry; Chemical and Pharmacy Industry; Vehicle Production and Transportation Industry) which the results are : 2.37 for organizational commitment factor , 3.14 for management involvement factor, 3.13 for employee empowerment factor, 3.08 for communication factor, 3.05 for environment/working conditions factor, 3.08 for training factor, and 3.02 for reward/incentives factor. This research proved that in every safety culture factor, there’s significant difference between company from Food Industry, Chemical and Pharmacy Industry, Vehicle Production and Transportation Industry and companies from three others branches (Textile Industry, Leather and Footwear Industry, and Wood Industry). Besides, this research found that safety culture factors have correlation with safety audit (SMK3) aspects. text |
