Summary: | Early detection for hearing loss in infants and children is a crucial part of preventing permanent hearing loss and other difficulties such as delayed speech and language development, as well as cognitive and educational problems. One way to screen for hearing loss is with the Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA) method. This equipment is usually attached to diagnostic audiometer, which is not always available in clinical settings in developing countries, and especially not in rural areas. Therefore we developed and validated an affordable and portable screening device that uses four warble tones as well as animal sounds. |
