Description
Summary:The lateritic nickel deposit is result of decayed of ultramafic rocks as host of Nisilicate. Generally it is at tropical until subtropical area. The influence of tropical in Indonesia made process of decaying intensively, with the result of that some areas in Indonesia have thick laterite profile (decayed product) and make Indonesia as a country of mainly producing laterite nickel. The process of nickel concentration at laterite deposite is controlled by some factors, those are host rock, climate, topography, waterflow, stability of mineral, mobility of element, and environment condition that influences to dissolvied of mineral.

This research is prominently at characteristic of lateritic nickel deposit in Gee Island, also comparing degree of laterite elements as Ni, Fe, SiO2, MgO, Co and CaO. The methodology are taking data as result of logging, making lateritation zones based on lateritic nickel genetic and mineralogy, modeling compare of laterite elements based on logging result, analyzing of cross section and determinating of anomaly area.

The determination of laterite area is limited by degree of Ni and Fe. For limonite, it is 1.2% < Ni < 1.8% dan Fe > 25%. Meanwhile saprolite, it is Ni lebih dari sama dengan 1.8% dan Fe kurang dari sama dengan 25%. After getting laterite zones, continue with comparing laterite elements. Based on data processing, it is known that MgO and SiO2 grouped to mobile elements as fast mobility. Meanwhile Ni is also mobile element but its mobility is slow. For Fe, Co and CaO, those are grouped to immobile elements because they are not leached.

In determinating of anomaly value, firstly to find local threshold value with assisted of Hazen Line. The result is anomaly area which degree of element is higher than threshold value. Determination of anomaly area is done at soil and composite of laterite elements. The result of analysis be used to study characteristic of lateritic nickel deposite and enrichment, mainly for knowing how far geochemistry exploration can be done.
