Description
Summary:Determination of iron(II) generally conducted by visible spectrophotometry method using 1,10-Fenantrolin as a complexing reagent. However, this analysis needed big amounts of chemicals, high cost, and the waste have toxic characteristic for the environment. Cyclic flow injection analysis method (cy-FIA) is the solution for reducing the high usage of chemicals and analysis time consuming. The amount of iron(II) determination using cy-FIA method with spectrophotometric detection (=510 nm) have been developed and evaluated. The using carrier is the mix of 1,10-Fenantrolin and EDTA in buffer with pH 5. The evaluation of this method showed a good analytical performance, shown by the reproducibility values (%KV,n=6) of 1.97% for concentration 0.4 mgL-1 and 0.86 % for 0.8 mgL-1, and also the detection limit by 0.03 mgL-1. Calibration curve showed a good linearity at concentration range 0.4-1.5 mgL-1 with R2 value = 0.990, and also the constancy of baseline can be maintained until 30 times injection. The analysis result of iron(II) concentration in water sample is 0.52 mgL-1 with %recovery of 95.45%. Based on the result of evaluation of the analytical performance from this developed method, it can be concluded that cy-FIA method is capable to be fast, accurate, economize, and environment-benign method for iron(II) analysis.
