Description
Summary:Microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) polysulfone (PSf) membranes have been widely used in various applications such as industrial wastewater treatment. In order to prepare tailor-made membranes, pre-casting and post-casting modifications can be done. The effects of different solvents on polysulfone membrane characteristics have been carried out in this work. Two types of solvents have been used, namely N,N-dimethylacetamide and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). The first type membranes, PSf-DMAc, were prepared by using a composition of polysulfone (PSf)/polyethylene glycol (PEG)/ DMAc 16/16/68 (%w/w) and the second type, PSf-NMP was made by using N-methyl pyrrolidone as solvent with the same composition as the first one. Membranes were made by phase inversion process using water as non-solvent. The characterizations of membranes comprised of determination of water flux, rejection coefficient, hydrophilicity, mechanical properties, thermal properties, degree of crystallinity, and analysis of membranes morphology.
