Summary: | The problem rises in building on peaty soil is coused by limited information of characteristic and prediction of consolidation and the method of peaty soil layer treatment that will be developed as the subgrade of any construction and experiment of technical characteristic of peaty soil in South Sumatera. The peaty soil will be tersted the compression chararacteristic by using horizontal drainage of Rowe\'s consolidation by loading simualation and loading priod and preloading. Then its characteristic is analyzed by using the modification of rheology model of Lo and rheology model of Berry. The parameter found from the modification of rheology model of Lo dan rheology model of Berry was verificated by laboratory test result by back-predicting. The result of test described that the characteristic of consolidation is closely influenced by the rate of loading and void ratio. The rate of consolidation increased by the rate of loading and time log, then the consolidation rate decreased, known as tertiary consolidation. But at the level of higher load than 0.8 kg/cm2,it will be difficult to deffer the secondary pressure line and tertiary pressure line because the lines were to be one. If indicated that for pressure of more than 0.8 kg/cm\', the characteristic of consolidation will be the same as the model of Berry\'s study, where at the model it described the two characteristics of consolidation of peaty soil, i.e. macro consolidation of peat frame (primary consolidation) and micro consolidation of peat pore structure (scondary consolidation). The change of consolidation from primary to secondary was indicated by the constant condition of the pore water, especially at the low consolidation loading. The value of loading rate given to loading level less than o.8 kg/cm2 influences the rate of consolidation, the parameter of rheology model. But the loading priod did not empirical influence the rate of consolidation and the empirical parameter of rheology model. The first loading only influenced consolidation of peat, but it did not influence the rate of consolidation potention and the empirical parameter of rheology model. The soil treatment by the method of preloading is well enough to heigh consolidation potention and heighten the peaty soil bearing capacity and it can be used to predict the length if time and the value of preloading load to determine the value of subsidence that will be deleted in the field. The peaty soil consolidation by using horizontal drainage is less than vertical drainage; it coused by the formed material in horizontal drainage will be used is a rigid drainage, and it coused by the length of seepage at the longer horizontal drainage. |
