Summary: | The existence of condensate films in a gas transmission pipeline can decrease the delivery of the gas rate. The condensate will form thin layer, which tends to gag the flow. One of the techniques can be done to overcome this problem is to add surfactants to the gas flow. The Effect of the surfactant is to decrease the surface tension at the interface between condensate layer and gas. The principal dynamic influence of surfactant is to impart an effective elasticity to the interface. The presence of surfactant will serve not only to balance the normal stress but also the tangential stresses. Since the condensate film occurred in the pipeline are very viscous liquids, and the gas stream is assumed to influence the film on its surface only, the model then leads to a Newtonian fluid model with small Reynolds number.Using dimensional analysis and Lubrication approximation we are led to the dynamic equation of the condensate surface.By means of the linear stability analysis, the stability, the growth or the decay, of the condensate surface is investigated. Parameters that control the stability of condensate surface are surfactant concentration, condensate viscosity and the surface tension. Results show that the presence of insoluble surfactant can affect the instability of the condensate surface. However the velocity of the gas stream gives no influence to the stability. We also find a minimum amount of surfactant for which above this value the condensate surface will be unstable. |
