Pribadi, IRWAN Indonesia Theses INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/12996 Entering the new millennium, effort to improve the quality of human resources is now considered as essential issue due to the challenges now faced by Indonesian contractors in the middle of the severely competitive construction market.<p>The research tries to identify and to discuss human resource quality, effort to improve the quality of human resources, and factors that influence them through a survey of small and medium contractors around Semarang, Central Java province. based on questionnaires and interviews, focusing on permanent contractor's staff (excluding casual workers and foremen).<p>The survey result show that the human resource quality is influenced by two factors. internal .factors and external factors. The first six ranks of the internal factors are experienced workers, education, intelligence, behavior attitude of the workers and working motivation. The first six ranks of the external factors are safety and working comfort, leadership and management, career clarity, working environment, working satisfaction, and working knowledge. To improve their workforce quality, contractor makes use of improving work experience, training program developed by the local Public Work and related contractors' association, worker education, and intensive supervision during execution of their task.<p>There are two categories of factor influence contractor's ability in improving their human resources, i.e. internal factors and external factors. The internal factors include availability of funds, time of training program implementation, worker's capacity and motivation for self-development, working environment, management policy, behavior/attitude of the workers, workers promotion, and increasing workers salary. External factors include technological changes and progress, business competition, economical growth, demographic changes, culture and social changes, employment market, government regulations, client demand, and availability of externally organized training program. text |
