Summary: | The process of "nyamplung" oil in biodiesel manufacturing are by impurity and some compounds; such as : alkaloid, phosphatide, carotenoid, chlorophyll, and many others which are usually called gum. There are three steps of biodiesel manufacturing : degumming, pre-estherification, and trans-estherification. Degumming process started by the addition of phosphoric acid 1% wt and wait for 1 x 24 hours. And then, the oil is washed by methanol : water : hexane until it has brownish color and separated, where the oil will be dissolved in hexane. While for the pre-estherification process is done by mixing methanol and oil which has the ratio methanol : oil = 20 : 1 by using pitch HCl 6% wt for about two hours in 60 oC. The separated oil will be used in the step three. In the trans-estherification, it is done by mixing the oil with methanol and NaCH3O with the ratio of oil : methanol : NaCH3O = 10 : 60 : 2 for about two hours in 60 oC. As the result, biodiesel oil has a yellowish color and 45% of rendemen. <br />
