Summary: | Kitolod leaves (Laurentia longiflora (L.) Peterm.) has been known traditionally to cure the eyes problems such as redness, itching and exudating. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of water extract of Kitolod leaves against the dominant bacteria which isolated from the conjuctivity patient. The water extract was prepared by two ways, by immersing in the hot water and by extracting in reflux system. The bacteria was isolated from the conjungtivity patient in Cicendo Eyes Hospital, Bandung. The bacteria identified as Staphylococcus hominis. The antibacterial activity of the extract was tested using agar diffusion method with paper disc. The result showed that for Staphylococcus hominis with 3.44x 108 CFU/mL, the hot water extract gave the largest inhibitory zone at concentration 80 mg/mL which was equivalent to 5.39ug/mL Erythromycin base as reference antibiotic, whereas the reflux extract the gave the largest inhibitory at concentration 66.67 mg/mL which equivalent to 7.31 ug/mL Erythromycin base as reference antibiotic. |
