Summary: | <p align="justify">This final project explains a novel technique for differential protection of three phase power transformer using the Hilbert transform. Hilbert transform is employed to obtain the amplitude envelope and phase-angle difference in primary side and secondary side of transformer phase currents, hence this proposed technique is able to distinguish between internal faults, external faults and magnetizing inrush. The proposed technique uses each phase current as the only input and is independent on differential currents. The technique has been tested and evaluated resulted from Matlab/SIMULINK simulation for different types of faults, include three phase-to-ground fault, line-to-line fault, and single phase-to-ground fault. The evaluation to the technique has taken into account the effects of saturated CT model, transformer winding connections, and fault and ground resistances. The evaluation results show that the proposed technique gives good selectivity as indicated by its ability to distinguish between internal and external faults and gives high speed relay response. |
