This phenomenon is normally encountered on a surface of carbon steel pipeline where crude oil and wet natural gas flows. In order to prevent the corrosion, a corrosion inhibitor is normally injected into the fluid flow continuously. Surfactant is one of chemical compounds which can act as inhibitor. In this project, Gemini Surfactant N1,N2-didodecyl-N1,N1,N2,N2-tetramethylethane-1,2-diaminium bromide or commonly called Gemini Surfactant Type 12-2-12 was synthesized by refluxing a mixture of in 1-bromododecane excess and N1,N1,N2,N2-tetramethylethylenediamine in 2-propanol for 48 hours with continuous agitation. Gemini Surfactant 12-2-12 was succesfully synthesized, indicated by the dissaperance of infrared tertiary N peak at 2780 cm-1. Gemini Surfactant performance was also tested on a carbon steel using polarization measurement, corrosion wheel test, and EIS within concentration range of 2-10 ppm concentration at 25-55oC. Highest inhibition efficiency on carbon steel treated with 1% NaCl solution saturated CO2 was observed at 90,074% with 10 ppm concentration at 25oC temperature using polarization measurement method. The reasearch also discovered a decrease of efficiency along with the increase of temperature. text
