Summary:This study was performed to investigate the effects of dynamic load of passing train on the abutment and backfill interaction and behaviors of abutment and backfill based on experimental study and numerical simulations. Experimental works were performed by measuring vertical acceleration by accelerometers on several points around a bridge abutment. Train velocities, train cathegory and locomotive type were measured and recorded during tests. Numerical simulations were performed by utilizing the finite element method using a professional software Plaxis Dynamic version 8.2.
