Description
Summary:Ceramic foam fabrication and characterization research is one way to make an innovative application of thermal insulation and acoustic absorber from gypsum and rice husk ash waste. Gypsum used in this research was from PT. Sud-Chemie, a fertilizer industry in Sukabumi, West Java. Ceramic foam is tough, plastic-like foam made from ceramics. The foam has an extraordinary insulating power due to the many tiny air bubbles within the material.
Mixture of gypsum, rice husk ash, limestone, aluminum, cement, and CMC binder powder added by water until the ceramic foam was formed. The main raw material composition used is (A = 40:20, B = 30:30, and C = 20:40) % added with 5% aluminum powder, 10% CaCO3 powder, 25% cement, and 20% mass of bulk mixture. The ceramic foam then form by slip casting method into the 20x10x3 cm and 4 cm diameter and 2 cm height of mould. The sample dried at 80 degrees C for 1h, and then treated by autoclaving process at 180 degrees C for 1h under 5 bar pressure. This treatment means to make the aluminum react and get the tiny bubbles within the material.
From thermal conductivity and acoustic measurement of three kind materials A, B, and C, the value of thermal conductivity are: 0,065; 0,078; and 0,079 W/moC. And the value of sound absorptivity are: 0,37-0,49; 0,36-0,42; and 0,37-0,55 at 1-3,2 kHz frequency range.
