Summary: | Human beings need nature to support their life and consumption demands. Natural resources are gift to survive, but in the contrary, could bring disaster as a result of misused and mismanagement. Enim watershed in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatera, is one of the wealthy area in this country. But there are ecological impacts from the natural capital utilization that cause pollution, flood, landslide, etc. Indeed, so many efforts and parties involved in the environmental management and controlling, but there is no significant outcome or behavioral change yet to obtain. Considering the importance role of biological environment for life activity support, there is a need to collect biological or carrying capacity information of this area, that have not been done yet. This effort could bring important information for managing natural resources' utilization to hinder exploiting it beyond ecological limit or regeneration rate.
In this research, Ecological Footprint Methods had been used to find out how far biological capacity in this area could support the consumption pattern of population. The result shows there is no ecological deficit in this area, for this time being, even there are pollutions and environmental degradation had occurred. Therefore, environmental efforts are the paths that have to be stepped through for the future sustainable generations. And the behavior and consumption pattern changes still the need to achieve for the better life tomorrow.
