Based on the UTM projection (Universal Traverse Mercator), datum WGS 84, -48 zone (102oE- 108oE, Southern Hemisphere), research area is at 348000 m-353000 m East and 9576000 m-9580000 m South. The research area is equal to 20 km2, can be reached by land transportation for five hours from Palembang City and can be reached by land transportation for 45 minutes from Lahat City. The research was conducted to determine the condition of geological research areas, including geomorphology, stratigraphy and geological structure, and then to determined the geological history of this area of research. Geological mapping is expected to provide information about potential resources, especially hydrocarbons and coalc in this area and then be held for further study. The method used in this research includes five stages, such as the preparation step, preliminary studies step, field research step, analysis and data processing step in the laboratory and studio and the last is thesis writing step. Geomorphology of the study area can be divided into three geomorphological units, such as Syncline Hills Unit which adult in geomorphological stage, Lava Dome Unit which young in geomorphological stage and Alluvial Valley Unit which adult in geomorphological stage. Research areas are grouped into five rock units, such as Claystone Unit, Claystone-Sandstone Unit, sandstone-Claystone Unit, Andesite Unit, and Alluvial Unit. Plio-Pleistocene tectonic activity resulted deformation in research area, be evidence with Serelo Syncline and Serelo Strike-slip form. Geological history of the research area began in the Middle Miocene with Claystone Unit deposition in outer-middle neritic. Then continued by deposition of Claystone-Sandstone Units with conformity deposition in Middle-Late Miocene at middle neritic environment. Then continued with depositional of Sandstone-Claystone Units consistently above Claystone-Sandstone Units in Late Miocene until Early Pliosen in transitional environment. Tectonic activity in Plio-Pleistocen period cause the deformations of the units that have been deposited in the form of Serelo Sinclin and Serelo Strike-slip Fault. Then Andesit Unit formed in Pleistocene Period. Further erosion process occurs and cause great affect to the morphology of the study area. Furthermore, the Alluvium Unit deposited still occurs until this day. text |
