It used not only in food industry, but also in chemical industry. Palm oil empty fruit bunch, as waste from palm oil, has been used as organic fertilizer, and also raw material for pulp and etanol. This research learn about palm oil empty fruit bunch another potency. It used as fungal growth medium on developing batik waste water decolorization technique. Batik wastewater has similar characteristics with the textile wastewater, which is high concentration in color, COD and BOD. The textile wastewater dyes can be degraded by white rot fungi using their extracellular enzyme therefore it is expected that the batik textile wastewater dyes can also be degraded by the same fungi. Absorption by palm oil fibre and spontanous oxydation are expected to have a role in decolorization process, other than fungi. The objective of this research is to learn about the utilization of palm oil empty fruit bunch as fungal growth medium and also to know the detailed process of decolorization which can be used as the reference in designing and operating a trickle bed bioreactor unit in decolorizing the batik wastewater. text
