Summary: | This final project investigates the characteristics of leakage current that flows on the surface of epoxy resin pin outdoor 20 kV insulator. The inspected parameter consists of magnitude and waveform of the leakage current, flashover’s characteristic, and arc’s characteristic in different testing condition. From the experiment, the obtained result is that in clean sample, the magnitude of the lekage current as the function of voltage is nearly linear, with constant value of the surface resistance and THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) because of the good hydrophobicity level of the surface. While, on the polluted sample, leakage current increases along with the increase of the pollutant conductivity with dominated odd order harmonic distortion (3rd, 5th, 7th), beside that, flashover didn’t occur in the clean insulator whether in the high humidity or in the low humidity eventhough the test voltage is increased until 60 kV. Result of the experiment is that the leakage current and harmonic sample is effective to detect the condition of insulator sample's surface and to make a pre-detection of flashover or arcing. |
