Description
Summary:Based on Perda Kota Bandung no 02/2004 concerning Regional Landuse Planning of Bandung City, East Bandung area is planned as residential area of Bandung City. Therefore, the need for groundwater in the East Bandung area is expected to rise within several years to come. In order to overcome this problem, knowledge regarding the geology and hydrogeological conditions of recharge area is required. Palasari Mountain (Cilengkrang District, Bandung Regency) is situated on higher elevation than the East Bandung area. The research area is located in volcanic center/volcanic cone unit and volcanic extrusives unit. The two units are separated sharply by the west – east bearing Lembang Fault. Lembang Fault in the research area is the normal fault, where the northern part is the hanging wall. Lithology of the research area is dominated by Quaternary volcanic rocks, namely Pyroclastic Breccia Unit, Andesite Lava I Unit, Tuff Unit, and Andesite Lava II Unit. Andesite Lava I Unit forms lenses within Lower Pleistocene - Middle Pleistocene Pyroclastic Breccia Unit (comparable with Cikapundung Formation). Andesite Lava II Unit forms lenses within Upper Pleistocene Tuff Unit (comparable with Cibeureum Formation). Based on lithological composition, the research area consists of two hydrogeological units, Breccia Unit and Tuff Unit. Aquifer system in the research area is unconfined aquifer, where the system is found within weathered Breccia Unit, weathered Tuff Unit and the Tuf Unit itself. Groundwater flow patterns towards the north and south. Change in groundwater flow direction coincides with imaginary line, called the groundwater divide. Most of the imaginary line is a result of Lembang Fault activity. Field measurement of TDS and pH conducted at 21 springs, shows TDS value is 16 – 105 mg/l and pH value 6,5-7,5. Tuff, in the research area is the main aquifer of East Bandung area, whereas the recharge area is found south of the groundwater divide.
