LONG TERM CAPACITY EXPANSION PLANNING IN SAUNG ANKLUNG UDJO BANDUNG

Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) is one stop cultural workshop, consisting of art performance venue, educational laboratory and training centre for the instructor and players of Sundanese performance art. SAU also produce traditional Sundanese musical instruments. Along with its growth SAU intend to expand itself to dominate broader market segment, and prepare for it accordingly.<p>Saung Angklung Udjo creates a policy that production and manufacturing of angklung is not only done by SAU but also by partners with local residents around Saung Udjo. SAU plans to increase its capacity on a period of 8 years, starting from 2010 to 2017.<p>The conceptual framework on capacity planning used in this study based on methodology of the Capacity Planning Process Rosenfield, consisting of these stages: Understand the business strategy and competitive environment, develop a demand forecast, identify capacity expansion (or construction) alternatives, apply relevant models to develop capacity strategy, assess implications for flexibility and balance, develop an implementation plan, implement, asses, and measure results.<p>In accomplishing its target SAU divided them into three stages, the first stage is the regional stage, second is the national stage and the third stage is the international stage. The amount of demands in the first stage consist of 10.230 sets of angklung, in second stage consist of 14.706 sets of angklung and the demand in the third stage consist of 3.676 sets of angklung. To meet its potential demand SAU uses build to forecast strategy and continuous capacity expansion with identical expansion rate, 2668 set of angklung each year.<p>The implementation plan will be broken down for each stages, also includes estimated times for activities on each stages using Gantt chart and details of the resources needed by the company to expand its capacity.<p>By applying the calculated result in the implementation planning, all SAU's target market is expected to be fulfilled and it will be able to formulate even better plan for its next step. <br /> <br />
