Description
Summary:Silicone liquid is usually used as a transformers insulating liquid. The transformer liquid has purpose as an insulating and cooling liquid. An electrical

arc may be occurred when operating the transformer. Electrical arc is very dangerous because it has high energy and it might increase the liquid temperature. The purpose of final task is to understand the effect of electrical arc to dielectric characteristics and dissolved gas in the silicone liquid. Experimental results indicated that electrical arc caused the degradation of chemical

compounds of silicone. The degradation of silicone liquid would produce impurities such as particle, gases, and water vapor. Impurities would decrease insulating quality of silicone liquid. From this experimental results, it could be concluded that electrical arc would decrease the breakdown voltages, relative permittivity, resistivity and inception voltage. Nevertheless, electrical arc

increases the value of dielectric loss factor (tan δ). The dissolved gases, including combustible gases, in silicone liquid generated during electrical arc occurred .

Acetylene (C2H2 ) had the highest concentration among the combustible gases produced. The measurement using spectrometer FTIR indicated that electrical arc

would change percentages of chemical bond of silicone liquid. If we compared with other insulation liquids, the effect of electrical arc in silicone liquid was

smaller.
