In this case, water distributed to the area must punctual by the demand of the land. The irrigation area of Batang Selo is technical water supply controlled by government of Tanah Datar Regency, Dinas Kimpraswil that in this time implement an annual cropping pattern of rice after completes the water system development. Predicting of demand on water in the future in accordance with decline of resource, required an early anticipation efforts by management strategic to makes it can used in optimum. In order to use water resource of Batang Selo river in optimum, efficiency must be done. Implementation of cropping pattern without considering water supply in annually results in inefficiency in use of water. Therefore, there must be carried out a study on farming method to improve of effectiveness. The study describes in this paper aimed to review of cropping pattern to makes utilization becomes efficient by cropping pattern analysis with several alternatives for maximum and efficient water balances. According to the review it can concludes that rice-second crop cropping patterns with alternative 1 and trivial demand of water about 18.435 m3/sec/year can implement and yield an efficiency in utilization of water and maximum water balance and increase the existing cropping intensity. text
