Summary: | The rare earth metals are kind of metal with big size have characteristic as hard Lewis acid. In this experiment, two 4-Acyl-5-pyrazolone derivatives have been synthesised using Jensen methode, that known have a strong affinity with hard Lewis acids like rare earth metals. Those compounds are 4-sebacoylbys(1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone) (H2SbBP) and 4-adipoylbys(1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone) (H2AdBP). H2AdBP is yellow-brown colours powder mean while H2SbBP is a yellow colours powder. The determination of melting point of H2AdBP and H2SbBP give 190,3oC-197,6oC and 132.9oC-135oC, respectively. The compounds and their precursor have good solubility in chloroform. H2SbBP show a better performance than H2AdBP as ligand on the solvent extraction Gd(III). The performance of ligands increase with increasing of pH and concentration. Extraction efficiency is studied with determining of the highest selectivity (a) of Y(III) and Gd(III), obtained when using H2AdBP as ligand with extraction condition pH 4.22. <br />
