Summary: | The misuse of antimicrobe against microbial infection may develop microbial resistance against the antimicrobe. Drug resistance can be reduced by using combination of antimicrobes. Antimicrobial activities from the combination of two extracts among ginger, "temulawak" and "temu putih" rhizome extracts were assayed to identify their type of combination. The combination type can be as synergistic, additive, indifferent, or antagonistic type. The antimicrobial activities from the combination of Zingiberaceae extracts were tested against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and Microsporum gypseum using gradient plate methods, agar diffusion method with paper disk and paper tape, and fraction inhibition concentration with paper disk. Single extract of ginger, "temulawak" and "temu putih" showed antimicrobial activities against all tested microbes, except Candida albicans and the combination of two extracts among ginger, "temulawak" and "temu putih" rhizome extracts showed an additive effect against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Microsporum gypseum. |
