Description
Summary:The research area is located in Asam-Asam, Jorong area, Tanah Laut region, South Borneo Province and is geographically at 3°50’35” – 3°53’18” South Latitude and 115°06’48” – 115°09’47” East Longitude. The area is about 28,3 m². ThenPhysiography of the research area is categorized as hills with low morphology. Research areas on hills and plains have weathered high volume of human activities, be they in the form of mining or agriculture. There are four unofficial stratigraphic units on the research area, they are deposited on conformoties from the oldest to the latest as follow : The Claystone Unit that is interpreted as part of Upper Warukin Formation was formed during Early – Middle Miocene, deposited in Middle Neritic to Deltaic environment; The Sandtone A Unit that is interpreted as part of Upper Warukin Formation was formed during Early – Middle Miocene, deposited in middle neritic to deltaic environment; The Coal Unit that interpreted as part of Upper Warukin Formation was formed during Middle Miocene, deposited in delta – fluvial environment; and The Sandstone B Unit that is interpreted as part of Dahor Formation was formed during Late Miocene – Pliocene, deposited in fluvial environment. The dip of the units in the research area are majorly southwet – northeast, the structure that formed this is interpreted happened in Pliocene – Pleistocene. There are 15 coal seams in the research area which are classified into three seam groups, namely Group A, Group B, and Group C. Group A coal is within rank sub-bituminus C, while coal in Group B and C is estimated based on its physical appearance and its stratigafic position have higher rank. The measured and indicated coal resources are 3,3 million tons and 32,6 million tons respectively within the Group B and C coal seams. The measured and indicated coal reserves are 83,1 million tons and 175,5 million tons respectively within the Group A coal seams.
