BEACH EROSION OVERCOME STUDY IN TEGAL

Erosion is defined as the decline of beach to landside direction from its original position. Erosion was occurred by littoral sediment transport along beach in which sediment moves from one place to another place. Littoral sediment transport is occurred if waves form an angle to normal of shoreline. In Purwahamba Tegal City beach, the sediment littoral occurring is 2.517,5 m3/year, lead to the decline of the shoreline. So far, the eroded areas comprise settlement and tourism area. The sediment moves from east to west direction. So far, the problem of sedimentation and erosion have been taken care by constructing Groin, Breakwater, Jetty and Seawall. The Groin and Breakwater was constructed in Purwahamba Beach which is tourism area, meanwhile the Jetty and seawall was constructed in Surodadi Beach which is settlement area. However, some part of the unprotected beach is still eroded. <br /> <br /> <br /> Through the study, beach change due to the erosion and its handling concept had been analyzed, which yields the suggestion activities as follows: constructing seawalls in eroded areas of Purwahamba beach, construction breakwater beside the existing jetty in Cenang river, expecting that a Tombolo will be grown, and conducting sand bypassing at the mouth of the Cenang river once every ten years.
