Starting from two problems that become the basic of this research--what kind of construction supply chain in the practice of building construction and how its formation process, that is limited on the building construction projects in Jakarta and Bandung, with the research focus on the production stage supply chain, this research to obtain the two answers is conducted. The exploration of the answers of these two questions is executed through the multiple case studies approach. The structure of the case study is formed by three contractors X, Y, and Z. Each contractor menages two building construction projects located in Jakarta and Bandung. In the project level, the analysis process based on the contractor relationship to its upstream and downstream, while at the company level based on two level of contractor management--project and head office level. This process yield two findings giving answers to the two research questions for this research.<p>In this level identified owner's role in determining the broadness of construction supply chain. Begining from electing contracting method by the owner, that will appoint the parties involved in production process supply chain and how wide the supply chain network is.<p>The owner's role specially is found at the construction product that has investment purposes. The equal relationship between owner and its contractor, specialist and subcontractor, through direct relationship between owner with the three key parties is a special pattern can be identified in this construction product. Direct relationship between owner and its potential suppliers represent special pattern identified in this construction product too. But in another kind of construction product with no investment purposes, the contractor has the role in structuring the construction supply chain in a common relationship.<p>At the company level is found that the three contractors have three different procurement policy--centralized, desentralized, and in between, will differenciate the procurement authority whether will be conducted at the project or head office level. Seeing its reflection at each project supply chain, found that the the three procurement policies can nor always be realized completely.Although applying of this concept is still limited in construction, collective purchasing by the contractors represent as a starting point in applying this concept by head office through the blanket purchase order.
