APPLICATION OF MOBILE PHONE-BASED TELEMEDICINE SYSTEM IN SAFE MOTHERHOOD PROGRAM AND OUTBREAK-SURVEILLANCE

The designed telemedicine system consists of a handphone or a modem which is connected to a computer, in which the FrontlineSMS software has been installed. The data needed by the system is saved in a MySQL database and the scripts used to manage the database are written in PHP programming language. The information exchange is done through the use of mobile phone and its Global System for Mobile-communication (GSM) network.<p>In maternal and child health programme, the system is designed to send an auto-reply message, a reminder message, and a reminder message using auto-forward function. The other systems designed are the Information System for Community Health Care and the Outbreak Reporting System using the W1 and W2 form.<p>Based on the experimental results, the auto-reply message, reminder, and auto-forward reminder systems are successfully executed. And so is the outbreak reporting system using W1 form.<p>The telemedicine system is designed using open-source softwares. So, it is free to use, the softwares do not cost finances. Besides that, the system uses GSM network, which means it can be implemented anywhere as long as the mobile network exists. This matches the needs of the targeted community which is in Primary Health Care level. <br />
