Summary: | Seabed mapping using a sounding method is done according to sounding lines with the direction and space between the lines that has been determined. With that method, the seabed objects that lie between two lines will not be described on map. To solve this problem, sweeping method is done, one of the sweeping methods is using Side Scan Sonar. Side Scan Sonar (SSS) is able to give a very sharp and high-detailed image just like a photo. A deep knowledge and understanding is needed about the process from SSS survey, to make the data quality from that survey can have a good result. With that ability, SSS is not only used for seabed mapping, but also can be used to study about the environment condition on seabed.
In this thesis, SSS survey on Pulau Damar Besar’s water, Jakarta Bay, was chosen as research object that includes the process of survey preparation, survey acquisition, data processing and analysis from the result of SSS survey.
This SSS survey result generally represents the condition of Pulau Damar Besar’s water seabed surface and able to interpret some under sea objects qualitatively and quantitatively. Despite the SSS survey result cannot be able to fulfill the expected survey result, because of the result cannot be used for the requirement of power plant development plan on Pulau Damar Besar. |
