Based on the disaster caused by abrasion, research about the characteristic of coastal and seawater in the area is needed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The research included fifteen days tides observation and one day current measurement. Tides harmonic analysis obtained from the tides observation data, so that the tides characteristic of the area can be seen. In the other side, the current data acquisition produced the current movement pattern based on its direction and speed. The pattern then related with tides condition at the same observation time. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The results from tides harmonic analysis show that the tidal type in Muara Gembong area is a diurnal tide (one tidal cycle per day), with Formzahl Number 3.51. Mean sea level obtained by tides observation is 2,044m below the nearest benchmark. The current measurement shows that current condition in Muara Gembong is dominated by the tidal current. When the tidal current floods, it moves toward the land and away the sea. In the other hand, when a tidal current ebbs, it moves toward the sea away from the land. The current velocity in floods condition reached 0,071 m/s, relatively larger than the ebbs condition, which is 0,0415 m/s. The maximum value of current velocity is 0,082 m/s. text
