Summary: | Satellite altimetry spacecraft is one of the best technologies used to monitor global sea surface height continuously. In altimetry satellite, sea level derived from satellite wave reflection form called waveform. Ocean waveforms have a good shape and reflectance approach the theoretical shape Model Brown. However, in coastal areas, the reflected waveform contains errors due to contamination of the land.
This study aimed to identify the characteristics of satellite altimetry waveform across the Java Island. The approach done by two methods: qualitative and quantitative. A qualitative approach is using individual waveform to determine the grade and distance from the constant waveform coast. While the quantitative approach is to calculate the value of TLEP (time of Leading Edge Position) which represents the distance from the satellite to the sea surface. From the value of TLEP, it can be seen how many waveform contaminated by the existence of the land.
From these two methods, it is obtained that the waveform characteristics depend on the direction the satellite orbit and the state of the sea in addition to some other factors. Satellite trajectory direction being a significant contributing factor in which the direction from the sea to the land tends to reflect a more stable waveform in coastal areas. |
