Summary: | Groundwater is water located beneath the ground surface in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of lithologic formations. It belongs to one of the limited water resources and its defect could result a very serious problem and would be hard to recover. The layer inside the earth that could carry or conduct the water is called aquifer. In general, sandstone and pebble, or limestone, are kind of good aquifer.
One of geophysical methods in mapping the aquifer geometry is GPR which involves the use of the electromagnetics wave with radio frequency. The toughness of the survey area sometimes makes the GPR measurement hard to be done and that is why another method is needed to help the mapping process. The BEM makes it possible for GPR to do the mapping process only in the boundary of the survey area. The geometry of the aquifer that located inside the survey area could be mapped with the help of BEM after the data along the boundary that was measured by GPR have been interpreted.
The combination between BEM and GPR could map the aquifer very well so that the contour of top aquifer layer could be created. In addition, the combination of both methods also could map the streamline of the groundwater inside the aquifer. This could ease the hydrology experts in analyzing the groundwater movement in a certain area. |
