Description
Summary:The fresh bulbs of Eleutherine americana (Aubl.) Merr has been used as a traditional medicine in Kalimantan. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of crude drug preparation on the yield of the major secondary metabolites. Fresh bulbs were divided into scraped and sliced groups. The two groups were divided again into fermentation and non fermentation groups. These groups were then divided into groups based on the difference of drying methods. The drying methods included sun drying, dried-air drying, lamp drying, and oven drying. Parameters evaluated include percentage of extract recovery, quinone and tannin content. The results suggest that fermentation increased quinone content especially in sliced-fermented crude drug that was dried using dried air. All treatment did not significantly affect the tannin content.
