Summary:The variation of ancient environmental conditions will greatly influence the geochemical characteristics of crude oil and gas. Therefore, to recognize about the origin and characteristics of crude oil and gas that are formed from source rock is one of the ways to understand the petroleum systems. The study area is located in Kangean, North East Java Basin. The subject of this study is to characterize crude oil and source rock. The object of this study is geological data from wells and geochemical data such as type of kerogen, Rock-Eval analysis results, chromatographic data, the physical analysis of crude oil samples and specific data related to characteristics of organofacies attribute such as GC/MS data, biodegradation and carbon isotope data from either sediment or hydrocarbon samples. Based on TOC data analysis, the Pre-Ngimbang Formation in the study area contains moderate to good TOC values between 1% and 20% and the Ngimbang Formation contains moderate to good TOC values between 1% and 25%.
