Nautical chart is the basic tool used in sea voyage and have a very crucial role in ensuring the safety of shipping in the ocean. Refering to Chapter II, Article 2 of UU No. 4/2011 on Geospatial Information and SOLAS 1974, the information presented in a nautical chart shall be updated in order to support the safety of navigation and reliability of these charts in needs of development, research, exploration and exploitation of coastal and marine areas. Coastal and marine areas are areas that always changing due to coastal and ocean dynamics which caused by natural or human activity. These changes make the information contained in a map of the ocean has a certain validity and need to be updated in order to describe the coastal and marine areas with accuracy every time needed. This updating process shall be conducted periodically and continuosly. Important changes that can be seen visually on the sea surface or the unseen beneath, deserve special attention and must be shown on nautical chart to ensure the safety of navigation. Scale of priorities in nautical chart update need to be applied for this process to be done in an efficient and systematic way.
