A case that can be studied in a laboratory is creep test of a rock sample to find constant used to calculate time-dependent deformation of a rock and its long-term strength. One of test methods to test rock sample is issued by ASTM namely D-4405 (Reapproved 1989). A creep test is conducted by giving a constant load to rock sample then the deformation that occur during testing is recorded as a data to analyze which model suitable to its behavior. Siltstone samples of Ombilin coal mine were tested in the reserach. Result of the test showed that behavior of most sample followed Burger model (a serial combination of Maxwell model and Kelvin). The Burger model has the following equation <br /> <br /> [ ada rumus ] <br /> <br /> Rheological constant as a result of test is as <br /> follow: <br /> K = 1626,865 - 1778,67 Mpa <br /> G1= 4109,8 - 21787,7 Mpa <br /> G2= 644,7 - 3291 Mpa <br /> ?1= 3,107E5 - 1,084E7 MPa.menit <br /> ?2= 1,46E7 - 8,688E9 MPa.menit <br /> <br /> Its long-term strength is 55%qc. <br /> Despite the test there is also a modelling process using finite element method. By applying viscoelastic behavior to undestand an internal condition occured when a sample loaded for a certain time and the result showed that the timedependent deformation of the model can be approached by Burger model. text
