Description
Summary:The abundant coal reserves in Indonesia can be used as an alternative energy solutions to replace oil fuels. The coal gasification is a processing technology energy resources that owns excellent possibility to be developed and exploited as a business opportunity, due to its nature as an effective energy-producing technologies and environmental friendly. Business development in the field of gasification is commonly plagued by ambiguity, uncertainty, complexity, and subjectivity in the decision making process, especially in the technology selection process of research and development (R & D) project that should be applied on the company's bussiness. Therefore, this study aims to develop a model of the technology selection that integrates the decision making of research and development (R & D) and operational aspect in company's bussiness in particular on coal gasification field. Determination of alternatives and criteria for technology selection are conducted by collecting data using questionnaires and interviewing coal processing experts in Indonesia, from academicians, researchers, and government agencies. Technology selection methods are completed using Fuzzy Delphi approach for the criteria selection, Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for weighting criteria and non-financial evaluation of technology, and Fuzzy Present Value for financial assessment of technology that integrated with the Brown-Gibson model. Technology selection model that was developed is composed by 4 (four) selection criteria as follows: Technical Criteria, Organizational and Regulatory Criteria, Economic Criteria, and Risk Analysis Criteria, which is entirely consist of 20 sub-criteria. Alternative of gasification technologies that are assessed are Updraft Fixed Bed, Downdraft Fixed Bed, Fluidized Bed and Entrained Bed Gasifier. The results show that (a) Economic Criteria and subcriteria Ease of operation on Technical Criteria is the most important criteria in the selection of technology, and (b) Updraft Fixed Bed Gasifier technology is „the best‟ coal gasification technology to be applied.
