Summary: | Free surface flow of jets from cascade tends to deflect from the ideal curvature made by blades of cascade. The deflection angles depend on many variables i. e. chord pitch ratio, angle of attach and stagger angle of the cascade. The analytical solutions for a cascade consisting of equal and parallel flat plates were given by Chaplygin and Minakov (1930), Betz and Peterson (1931), Joukowski (1949) , Sedov (1950), etc. The numerical solution using Finite Element Method for a single row cascade consisting of equal and parallel flat and curved plates was made by Harryson (1997). The solutions based on the theories of inviscid and incompressible fluid in two dimensional plane. The numerical result for the cascade consisting of equal and parallel flat plates problem is in good correlation with the analytical result. The experimental results show that the deflection angle of the free surface flow in cascade consisting of equal and parallel flat plates problem is in good correlation with the analytical result. The deflection angle of the free surface flow for the cascade consisting of equal and parallel curved plates problem was different from the numerical results. The other parameters measured in this experiment were: velocity ratio, normal force coefficient, and pressure distribution on blades of cascade. <br />
