Description
Summary:Phytoremediation is cost effective alternative to treatment methods that uses plants to degrade, contain or immobilized contaminants from soil. Phytoremediation of Cu and Pb from solid waste paper that used deinking process with Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) has been studied. Elephant grass is one of the plants easy to planting and also high tolerance to type of soil and climate, it is used as phytoremediation plant to remove Cu and Pb from soil. The media of solid waste paper with deinking process and soil from Lembang (as a control) was planted by Elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) with variation planting period 20, 40 and 60 days. EDTA solution was added to the soil in each experimental soil by determined concentration. Cu and Pb accumulation in this plant were analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrofotometer (AAS). The statistical analysis indicated that Cu and Pb accumulations in plant between media with EDTA and media without EDTA were not significantly different. Result show the optimal removal of Cu happened at 40 days with the biggest accumulation in the roots. And the optimal removal of Pb happened at 60 days with the biggest accumulation in the leaves.
