| Summary: | People have to work to fulfill their needs. At the beginning, man takes the responsibility to do it. But, together with the economic responsibility, competition of worker market and also there are much more high educated women cause the fulfillness of family needs to be the responsibility of husband and wife. So, woman has two roles as a housewife and a worker. In general, there are more work opportunities in the central business district than in the suburban. But, in the other hand people live in the suburban. So, there is a trip from their home to the office. This research took place in the suburban of Semarang. The purpose of the research is to find out where the work location is for men and women. The result of data analysis shows that the characteristic of men and women worker moving don't depend on (don't oriented on) the location in the central business district. A lot of them work in the suburban of Semarang which is near to their home. Statistically, the comparison in choosing work location due to distance (0-2 Kilometers) shows that women tend to choose work location which is near from home, but the time which is needed (0-20 minutes) between men and women shows the same result. It is caused by women have a dual role (as a house wife and worker), eventhough they have a short distance but the time they take is the same like men do. Statistically, the comparison in using mode transportation between men and women get some results : 1) there are more women who go to the work location on feet than men, 2) men workers prefer to use private transportation to women because women are considered as the second breadwinner and patrtiacal system in the family. That's why men as a main bread winner deserve to use private transportation. 3) There are more men who use mode of public transportation than women. Women in suburban of Semarang go to work on foot because their work place is near (0-2 kilometers). |
