Description
Summary:Darma Dam, located in the Village Darma, District Kadu Gede, Kuningan regency, West Java Province, is a type of rockfill and homogeneous soil deposits dam. This dam is one of large dams in Indonesia that has significant role in fulfilling the water needs of the surrounding society. The danger posed by such large dam if collapse will be very significant, it can be more dangerous than the threat posed by Situ Gintung dam who had recently collapsed and caused so much fatality and created a very big loss. The collapse of a dam usually occurs when there is deformation at the structure of the dam. This type of deformation in the Darma dam can be caused by several factors, such as: a highway located at the top of the dan’s wall, the structure of the dam, and the deformation caused by earthquake. Due to those factors and the high danger this dam may cause, the deformation of this dam should be monitored periodically. One method that can be used in monitoring the deformation is the GPS survey. By knowing the amount of deformation of the dam indicated by changes of landmarks coordinates from time to time, the characteristics of this dam deformation can be studied further. In May and September 2009, we have conducted a dam deformation monitoring with GPS survey methods. The results of this monitoring during May - September 2009 shows the amount of horizontal and vertical deformation of the Darma Dam in the order of mm. Dam deformation correlated with the structure of the dam, the top of the dam used as a highway, and the water pressure.
