In the manufacturing method with VARTM and hand lay-ups, there are common problems that occur, such as material quality problems until the making process itself. This makes the results become less perfect specimens, where there are defects on the surface or inside surface. Therefore, in this study the author tries to do the repair method for surface defects.
Repair method done in this study focuses only on defects that occur in the VARTM composite surface. Repair process is done by removing the defected surface layer (sanding), then defected layer that already removed is replaced with fiber glass using a hand lay-up method (repair).
In this final study we use specimens that made from VARTM, Hand lay up, and VARTM composites that have been in the repair will be tested for tensile and analyzed to compare the mechanical properties of composite materials, which form voltage strengths for all tensile test specimens. So it can be seen whether this repair method can be used or not. This can help to determine whether a defected composite VARTM can be repaired or must be replaced. |
