The

mechanical property is determined by type of binder. Several steel plate specimens with the size of 2 by 5 cm2 were prepared and painted. The type technology employed is the HVLP (high volume low pressure) spraying process with 2 bars of pressure. Baking temperature of 900C, 1000C, 1100C, 1200C and baking time of 5, 10 and 15 minutes were used for the experiment. The basecoat thickness was measured by using the Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauge.

From the observation it is found that optimum baking temperature were of 1200C and time of 3 minutes and this gave a scratch hardness value of 3H. Optimization was indicated by the amount of power required to achieve the optimum mechanical property on a painted unit area. Hence optimized baking is achieved at temperature of 1200C and power of 5 Wh/cm2. text
