Summary: | Experiment of black chromium plating had been conducted on substrate of aluminium alloys type 6063 T5, with intermediate plating of copper and followed with nickel using chromic acid bath and sulfamic acid catalyst. The variables of the electroplating process were; (1) current density, (2) catalyst concentration, and (3) time of plating The temperature was held constant at 15±2°C. The deposit/layer of black chromium plating were observed visually, measured the reflectivity, and measured weight gain. From the experiment data can be concluded, that the optimum condition of plating process in sulfamate bath were 20 A/dm² (current density), 10 gpl (concentration of the catalyst), and 20 menit of the plating time. The temperature process was held constant at 15±2°C. The black chromium deposit considered having optimum quality were tested for corrosion resistance with salt spray (fog) methode, adhesivity using bend-test and heat-quench test methode refer to ASTM standard. The components of the black chromium deposit was analyzed by X-ray diffraction. |
