Summary: | Locomotive is a railway vehicle that used to pull passenger coaches or freight wagon behind it. In Indonesia, the existing locomotives are aged for above 25 years old, whereas the ideal operating age is only 25 years. PT INKA (Persero) in collaboration with Kemenhub and ITB as a research institute tries to design and manufacture the Diesel-hydraulic Locomotives. This is the first time for PT
INKA in doing so. Activities undertaken include the analysis of static load according to the standards used, BS EN 12663-1:2010. The first step is to collect the design data that provided by PT INKA. The next step is modeling the structure in ANSYS 11.0 software. Then the model is applied with the appropriate boundary conditions and loads according to the standards and testing load cases. The final step is performing simulation to the applied load cases. From these simulation, results obtained are in form of stresses and structural deflection. At the initial design, there is a failure happens on the model, because
the stress reaches 264 MPa at the couplerbox, where the allowable stress is 258,75 MPa. Modification is done by adding thickness to the plate which is estimated to be failed. Modification were also performed on the fuel tank wall by thicken its thickness to increase the stiffness and weight. Modifications applied to this structure is successfully reduce down the stresses from 264 MPa to 201 MPa so that strength of structure meets the requirements. |
