Summary: | The development of fuel technology advances rapidly. Fuel manufacturing companies are competing to develop the best fuel characteristic on the market. The addition of additive is often done to increase the quality of combustion. Additive as a fuel addition works based on fuel‘s characteristic. However as a fuel mixture, additive performance is affected by fuel characteristic and sometimes can degrade engine performance. This experiment is done to find fuel‘s characteristic that will affect additive‘s performance. The experiment is done using Huawei diesel engine type 186FG, single cylinder 3, 6 kW and five different kinds of diesel fuel that experimented on six variables of loads. Additive‘s performance evaluation is done for 11 steps of concentration while monitoring changes in engine performance that happens especially based on the SFC‘s. The result in general was that fuel‘s additive usage can give savings effect. Similar additive concentration will not always result in the same performance. Fuel‘s characteristics that will affect additive‘s performance are LHV and cetane index. Additive‘s performance value is inversely proportional with cetane number and LHV. Higher cetane number and LHV will result in lower additive‘s performance. |
